In his presentation “Greater flexibility for EMS through laser technology”, Florian Roick will explain how lasers can be used in electronics manufacturing for marking and panel separation. However, switching to laser technology for these two process steps has much greater implications than simply replacing a labeler or a milling machine: It brings flexibility; it provides traceability from the start of production, has an impact on PCB design, and increases product longevity.
EMS service providers in particular benefit from laser technology, as it enables them to respond more flexibly to customer requirements, significantly increase process reliability, and start production more quickly. Using practical examples, the presentation explains how high-mix, low-volume environments, such as those prevalent in the German EMS landscape, can benefit from the technology change.
This technology presentation explains in detail how laser technology works and highlights its impact on the entire SMD process. Laser marking and laser cutting are compared with conventional methods such as labeling and milling. The advantages of laser technology for EMS service providers are clearly illustrated with practical examples.
